Mike lives and breathes languages and he has been studying languages since the age of 7. He started with French, and then Spanish, and then took up Arabic as a teenager. He now teaches full-time online and in-person English and Spanish to adults and children. Here are some of the reasons why he is so passionate about sharing his love of languages: Learning languages makes your brain bigger ; it makes travel more fun ; it’s a great way of making friends and ; it’s fun to figure out why in English a dog says “woof”, in Spanish, “guau” and in Arabic “nubaaH” What’s the right word?, I hear you asking. The dogs aren’t saying.
Mike also hosts a Podcast for Advance English learners called The English Waffle and Co-hosts The L&E Podcast.
How did you get in to Teaching Languages?
By mistake! In a previous life i was an international salesman travelling around the world to sell language courses. I decided one day that teaching courses might be more fun than selling them. I was right!
Experience in teaching languages? 7 years and counting. I teach English, French and Spanish
Why do you like being a Language Teacher? I enjoy being close to language and seeing how we can give names to the most unusual things. Did you know to discombobulate means to confuse someone? Have I confused you?!
Style of teaching? If we learn something from each other, then we are both teaching! I always hope to learn something form my students
Fun fact about yourself! I never wear a pair of socks that match!

Otis
Online Guitar Tutor
Otis Tabasenge, based in London, was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo and picked up the guitar at the age of 8. He was taught by Gaby Diomi, a Congolese guitar master with an international reputation.
Gaby was to become a father figure for Otis teaching him the traditional styles of Rumba and Soukous. Gaby Diomi tragically passed away when Otis was 19 but he remains a very strong influence. After playing in a gospel band for 2 years Otis got his big break when he joined ‘Wenge Musica (Maison Mere)’ and with them he began to tour worldwide. The tour took him through out Africa and into Europe where he played to sell out stadium venues. After playing at ‘Zenith’ in Paris the group was nominated for two ‘Kora Awards’ for best African group, 2001 & 2002.
In 2002 Otis settled in England where he continues to play with many Congolese bands including Kanda Bongo Man and Kasai Masai. Otis has always enjoyed teaching his style of guitar and is driven by the need to pass his technique on to others. Otis has also been fully trained to work with young people at different levels, from primary to secondary school. He is based in London and is available for guitar lessons for anyone with a desire to learn from beginner to advanced.
Student References:
“Otis is a wonderful guitar teacher, and delivered hour-long guitar lessons to a small group of up to eight children- no easy feat with 4 and 5 year olds! Our pupils learned simple chords, how to read music and even some school songs in just a few months. We can’t wait to have Otis back again in September” Megan Hardy, Assistant Head Teacher for Inclusion and Achievement, School 21

What did you want to be when you grew up? I loved photography and dancing so a breakdancing photographer! I always knew I wanted to work with people and as time went on and I started to volunteer and work with children I knew if I could find a job that entailed working with both adults and children then that would be perfect.
Favourite place visited on L&E Travel? Liverpool and Amsterdam!
Favourite L&E World Camp activity? The evening activities are the best part of the day for me. The children and the staff all together having a ball! Theme nights are always special, the staff put so much work into planning them and the children make it all worthwhile by completely immersing themselves in the chosen theme.
Favourite L&E memory? There was one epic water fight back in 2014 which was my first year working at L&E. It started off as an afternoon activity and everyone was having so much fun it carried on way past the end of the session…I think we almost missed dinner. That is what camp is all about – just losing yourself in the fun.
Best thing about L&E? Memories. So many of my favourite memories happened at L&E, there are just too many to name. Seeing the children come back year after year and greeting you with a massive smile is just priceless. The bonds that you make are so strong, the children leave with so many new friends, as do the staff.
Fun fact about yourself! I love a good fad and my most recent is Olympic Weightlifting….watch this space!
"Maya had the time of her Life with L&E ! She keeps talking about the camp every day !"Valerie, France
