Sunday, 12th July
We were so happy to welcome so many new campers to L&E today. After a lovely BBQ and goodbye to parents we went straight into some wide games. Lots of fun was had and new friendships ignited. Everyone went to bed excited for tomorrow!
Monday, 13th July
This morning marked the beginning of Week 2 at L&E Camp, and we were excited to welcome both familiar and new faces for another unforgettable week together.
Our day began at 7:45 a.m. as we woke the campers and helped everyone get ready for breakfast. By 8:15 a.m., the dining hall was full of smiles and conversations as everyone enjoyed a delicious breakfast. Campers could choose from scrambled eggs, hard-boiled eggs, hash browns, sausages, sweet pastries, cereal, and fresh apple or orange juice. It was the perfect way to fuel up for a busy day ahead.
At 9:00 a.m., we headed down to the rugby field at Shawnigan Lake School to kick off the morning with lots of energy. The campers jumped right into fun games like Capture the Flag, Bulldog, and relay activities. It was wonderful to watch friendships begin to grow as everyone laughed, cheered each other on, and worked together.
At 10:30 a.m., campers split into their different programs. During Youth Global Leaders (YGL), students explored what makes an effective leader and practiced the foundations of confident public speaking. In English class, campers focused on observation and descriptive images in English skills.
While some campers were learning in the classroom, others enjoyed basketball and volleyball, while another group expressed their creativity by making friendship bracelets. It was inspiring to see each camper finding joy in different activities and encouraging one another along the way.
Lunch brought everyone back together to enjoy a fresh salad bar alongside rice, chicken, steamed broccoli, and a variety of vegetables. After lunch, campers had some free time to visit the tuck shop for a treat and relax before the afternoon adventures began.
At 2:00 p.m., the afternoon was filled with exciting activities. Sports groups enjoyed football, volleyball, and basketball, while the adventure group took part in team-building and went to the forest for dumbbuilding activities. Our creative campers had a fantastic time learning new dance moves and expressing themselves through music.
At 4:30 p.m., we held a swimming assessment for our new campers. It was heartwarming to see so many excited faces as they stepped into the lake with courage and enthusiasm. Watching campers encourage one another reminded us that camp is about much more than activities—it’s about building confidence and creating a supportive community.
Dinner was another highlight of the day, with spaghetti and meatballs served alongside delicious dessert including cookies.
We ended our first day of Week 2 with an exciting evening of icebreaker activities. Campers worked together in teams, competing in fun challenges such as lining up alphabetically without speaking, solving the human knot, passing a balloon over and under one another, and a creative dress-up relay. To finish the evening, each team was given materials to design and build a protective container that could keep an egg safe when dropped from a height. The creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills they demonstrated were truly impressive.
By 9:30 p.m., we returned to the dorms, where campers got ready for bed after a full day of learning, laughter, and new friendships.
Week 2 is already off to an amazing start, and we can’t wait to see what the rest of the week has in store. Here’s to more adventures, stronger friendships, and memories that will last a lifetime!
Tuesday, 14th July
Second day of second week! Was an incredible day, started strong with our classic energisers to get our campers ready for the day. We then got into our morning activities which were the great L&E sports challenge, where our campers competed it out to win different sport challenges. Our creative option this morning was tie dying and volcano making; our campers wowed us with the creative skills. And of course we had YGL and English in the morning.
We refuelled with some delicious food, and jumped straight into a busy afternoon of flag football, laser tag and archery and clay making. We all had a great time and then cooled off in the lake and chilled in the lovely hot sun.
After another yummy meal we had our campfire where we sang songs, danced and drank hot chocolate.
What a perfect day, can’t wait to see what we get up to tomorrow.
Wednesday, 15th July
Today was another day packed full of adventure, creativity, teamwork, and plenty of smiles!
This morning, our campers split into their activity groups. Our English group played some games and put their language skills to the test. Our YGL group put their engineering hats on and built bridges out of marshmallows before designing their very own dream summer camps. There were some incredibly imaginative ideas (we may have to take inspo).
Our Creative campers enjoyed body painting and creating colourful chalk drawings around camp, while our Sport group took on an exciting triathlon. Everyone showed fantastic determination and team spirit throughout the morning.
Lunch was a delicious Cubano sandwich, which helped everyone recharge for an action-packed afternoon.
After lunch, many campers gathered to watch the football. There were definitely mixed emotions as everyone cheered on their favourite teams, but it made for an exciting atmosphere!
The afternoon continued with plenty of water fun as campers enjoyed playing on the water slide and heading out onto the lake for kayaking. They also got creative during our Polymer Clay Animal Competition, where we saw everything from tiny crabs and colourful broccoli to some wonderfully imaginative creatures!
Dinner was a comforting shepherd’s pie, followed by the perfect way to wind down from the busy day with a screening of Big Hero 6.
We can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
Thursday, 16th July
With the suspense of The Canadian Games fuelling our campers, this morning started off hyped for another great day!
This morning our creative team had the dough-lightful task of baking cupcakes! While most tasted pretty good… we had one bright-pink-battery-acid-tasting-disaster!!! Our baking leader, Archie, is still feeling fragile ..
Further debates commenced in YGL today with the topic: money can’t buy happiness. With strong arguments from each side the students concluded that, no money doesn’t buy happiness!
Our treasure hunt was a thrilling treat for some campers, they headed round campus following riddles and clues! When they finished at the fountain they hunted for their prize – TimBits for the whole team!
Our English students piled into the car and headed to Mill Bay for a shopping excursion with the focus of putting their learnt English into practice!
The rain this afternoon didn’t stop any of the kids from enjoying synchronised swimming in the lake or playing rugby in the pitches.
Our evening ended with the much anticipated Canadian Games 🙌 6 teams battled head to head in a tournament style competition! With games such as, Cornhole, Canadian quiz and Hockey matches – stay tuned for the winner reveal tomorrow…!
The L&E Canadian Games
Friday, 17th July
Last day of week two??? What an incredible way to end another amazing week at camp. We started the day with hash browns, eggs, and bacon, before heading into our morning energisers, which were led by our YGL campers. They had everyone running around, getting ready for the day with games of Graveyard, Everybody’s It, Rainbow Tag, and Swaps.
We then got into our morning activities, with English and YGL learning about duckweed, making lavender bunches, and playing a tense round of Mafia. The rest of our campers split off between a game of basketball and making wind catchers. After refuelling with some cheeseburgers and chips for lunch, we headed to tuck shop for some candy and a bit of rest before jumping back into our afternoon activities. Our sports campers battled it out in a football match, Adventure headed into the forest for some creative den building, and our Dance Crew learned choreography to Rihanna’s “Don’t Stop the Music.”
After a quick turnover, we headed down to the lake for a relaxing afternoon of swimming, chilling, and enjoying the beautiful sunshine. It was the perfect way to unwind after another busy day at camp. We then headed back to the dining hall for dinner, enjoying some schnitzel followed by lemon tarts for dessert. After some time to relax, we got ready in our formal attire for one of the biggest nights of the week: Awards Night at the chapel.
With Charmaine leading two incredible dances and Lucy giving us an amazing singing performance, the evening was filled with talent, celebration and plenty of special moments. Our Star Camper award went to Finley for an incredible performance throughout the week in every activity imaginable, as well as for truly representing the spirit of L&E. We ended the night with a party full of music, dancing and plenty of tears as we said goodbye to the campers leaving us this week.
What an emotional and unforgettable way to finish week two. We’ve made so many incredible memories, and although it’s sad to say goodbye to some of our campers, we can’t wait to see what the final week has in store!
