A lovely sunny evening spent getting to know each other. What a great start to camp! So much to look forward to this week…
Monday, 20th July
Today was another wonderful day at Camp L&E, filled with energetic games exciting activities, and plenty of laughter.
We began the morning outdoors with some lively energisers. Campers took part in Capture the Flag and Bulldog, giving everyone the opportunity to run around, work as a team, and start the day with lots of energy. The games were highly competitive but full of encouragement, with campers cheering one another on throughout.
After the morning energisers, campers moved into their different programmes and activities. During Youth Global Leaders (YGL), the students began developing their own social action projects. They explored a range of important global issues, including healthcare, education, and changes they would like to see within the school curriculum. The group then turned their attention closer to home by considering what they would change or improve about camp. Working together, they developed ideas and began preparing pitches that they will present directly to the Camp Director tomorrow. It was fantastic to see the campers thinking critically, expressing their opinions, and considering how they could make a positive difference within their own community.
Other campers spent the morning enjoying tennis and volleyball. These sessions gave them the chance to develop their skills, stay active, and build stronger friendships through friendly competition and teamwork.
At lunchtime, everyone came back together to enjoy a delicious Chinese-style meal, including a tasty stir-fry. After lunch, campers had some well-earned free time to relax, spend time with their friends, and visit the tuck shop for a treat before the afternoon activities began.
The afternoon offered another fantastic variety of activities. Some campers took part in rugby, where they practised passing, movement, communication, and teamwork. Others headed off-site for an exciting climbing trip. The campers challenged themselves, supported one another, and truly thrived as they tackled the different climbing routes.
Back at camp, the adventure group headed into the forest for den building. Campers worked together to gather natural materials and create their own shelters. The activity encouraged creativity, problem-solving, and cooperation, with each group developing its own unique approach.
Meanwhile, our creative campers enjoyed an energetic dance session featuring music from Ariana Grande, Shakira, and Rihanna. The group learned new movements, expressed themselves confidently, and brought plenty of enthusiasm to every routine. The room was filled with music, smiles, and impressive dance moves.
Dinner was another camp favourite, with spaghetti and meatballs served to help everyone recharge after such an active day. After dinner, campers enjoyed some phone time, giving them an opportunity to contact family and friends, share stories from their day, and relax before the evening programme.
We ended the day with a brilliant series of welcome games. Campers worked together to solve the Human Knot, they drenched their counselors in the water cup challenge and also took part in the Egg Drop Challenge, using their creativity and problem-solving skills to design a protective structure that could prevent an egg from breaking when dropped.
It was the perfect way to bring everyone together and make our newest campers feel part of the L&E community.
Today was an amazing example of everything that makes camp so special: learning new skills, overcoming challenges, building friendships, and having fun together. We are looking forward to seeing what more adventures the week has in store.
Tuesday, 21st July
Today kicked off with energisers, getting everyone moving with a round of swaps and everybody’s it tag. For morning activities, our English and YGL campers dug into their Dream House and Camp Proposal projects, while other campers got creative crafting stained glass windows with coloured tissue paper, took on a campus-wide triathlon, and tried their hand at robotics.
We refuelled with some tasty sandwiches for lunch before campers picked their afternoon adventure: karaoke, water polo, football, or laser tag.
It was a scorcher of a day, so campers welcomed the chance to cool off at the rink during our usual lake time. Whether they’d skated before or not, campers had a good time out on the ice.
Dinner was a comforting plate of spaghetti with a lemony dessert to finish, followed by phone time, giving campers a chance to catch up with family back home.
As the sun went down, we gathered for campfire, singing our way through some classic camp songs and picking up a few new ones along the way. We wrapped up the night with hot chocolate, marshmallows, and some good music around the fire.

Wednesday, 22nd July
Hot! Hot! Hot! was the theme of L&E’s scorching week 3 day 3.
Our campers kicked their mornings off bright and early with a game of fruit salad after breakfast, working up a sweat before the sun even had a chance to catch up! Some campers then revved their creative engines with paper vase making, using pipe cleaners to make complementary flowers. This helped to add a little extra colour Samuel house. Others were subjected to an intense Bootcamp whilst our YGL and English teams continued their classroom based activities.
Our entire afternoon was spent in the cooling embrace of the lake, as we commandeered paddle boards to escape the midday heat, gliding across the water and soaking up every last ray of sunshine camp had to offer.
Following another delicious evening meal from Shawnigan’s catering team, we swung into action with a webslinging classic: Spider-Man Homecoming. This allowed us to escape the evening heat with AC and popcorn!
Exhausted, the campers slept soundly, dreaming of sugar plums and fairies, giddily awaiting another exciting day of camp.
Thursday, 23rd July
Second to last day of camp! With the end of camp quickly approaching, we made sure to make the most of every moment. After starting the day with breakfast, we headed to energisers where we played Capture the Flag, Graveyard and Swapped to get everyone ready for the day.
We then got into our morning activities, with YGL helping prepare for our upcoming theme night, English enjoying some delicious ice cream, Soccer making the most of the sunshine, and our campers baking some amazing cookies. After a delicious lunch of quesadillas, we headed to tuck shop for some candy and a bit of rest before jumping back into our afternoon activities. We had another baking session, a weightlifting session, climbing and robotics, giving everyone the chance to try something different and make the most of our final few days at camp.
After a quick trip to the lake to cool off and relax, we headed back for a dinner of grilled chicken and ribs. We then had some phone time and a chance to relax before getting ready for one of the biggest nights of camp: Campchella!
A spin on the famous Coachella festival, Campchella was a night filled with music, dancing, drinks, pizza, henna, fortune telling and endless memories. Everyone looked incredible in their outfits, and the night was full of laughter, celebrations and some very special guests such as Bad Bunny, Ariana Grande, Brittany Spears, and many more as we enjoyed one of our final nights together. We then headed back to the house to finish up the day.

Friday, 24th July
So, the time has come! Farewell to all our wonderful campers! What a thrilling 3 weeks it has been!
Today, the morning began with the usual brilliant breakfast, followed by some excellent energisers, organised by our very own YGL leaders, who put into practice the leadership skills they had been learning in the classroom!
We enjoyed several classics, including fruit salad, bulldog, and graveyard, before launching into morning activities. These included of course English and YGL, but also drawing and dance – unfortunately soccer had to be cancelled due to lack of interest – presumably the heat!
Morning faded into afternoon, and after and a pleasant curry for lunch, we undertook an hour slot for packing in advance of departure, followed by some sensational slip n slide! Campers then went for the usual lake time, but not before a surprise appearance of an ice cream truck, which whipped up some wonderful ice cream!
Lake time had an air of nostalgia to it, with the knowledge that there were not to be any more lake times to come this year! The lake was warm, as were the vibes, before we continued to dinner where we ate a Canadian twist of an English classic, with some fish and chips! The fish however being lingcod – a very different fish indeed to English cod (google the difference if interested)!
The day was concluded fittingly with an emotional Oscar’s award ceremony, followed by a dance and many sad farewells. However, we prefer to dwell on that we can’t wait to see some of you same campers again next year! As well as welcoming hopefully many new faces too! It has been an honour to be part of the team, and I hope everyone has a lovely rest of the year! Goodbye for now!
